Land Acknowledgement
We begin today by acknowledging that the land on which we gather—here at beautiful Fairy Lake in Newmarket—is the traditional territory of many Indigenous Nations. This area is part of the treaty lands and territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, and it also lies within the ancestral lands of the Huron-Wendat, the Haudenosaunee, and the Anishinaabe peoples.
We recognize that this land has been cared for and inhabited by Indigenous peoples since time immemorial, and we are grateful for the opportunity to walk, reflect, and come together on this land today. As we move through this space, may we do so with respect, gratitude, and a renewed commitment to reconciliation and meaningful action.
Miigwetch. Thank you.
